2021 Knox County Park District Internship
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Control invasive plant species in ecosystems; replace invasives by planting native plants
- Assist volunteers in monitoring butterfly transect trail & bluebird boxes
- Monitor various nesting boxes – Wood Duck, American Kestrel, Barn Owl
- Develop and present educational interpretive programs (if COVID-19 guidelines allow)
- Assist with current Park District programs and events
- Write nature-related articles and take photos for e-newsletter, Facebook and Instagram
- Develop printed educational materials for kiosks
- Mark Knox County Park District property boundaries
- Assist with trail design and layout at various properties
- Routine maintenance on hiking trails, multi-use trails, water trails
- Assist with construction projects
Qualifications, Education &/or Experience:
- Must be a currently enrolled college or university student in Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences, Wildlife Management, Biology or closely related field
- Experience in ecosystem management, wildlife management and interpretive programming preferred
- Strong desire to work outside in most weather conditions; strenuous physical labor required
- Able to work independently or with a team
Internship Details:
- Position pays $10 per hour
- 40 hours or less per week
- This is seasonal employment, beginning on June 1, 2021 and ending on August 31, 2021
- Occasional early morning, evening, Saturday and/or Sunday required
- KCPD willing to work with college/university so student may gain college credit
- On-grounds housing offered, free of charge
