On April 2, 2024 at 8:53 a.m. a Mount Vernon Police Department patrol unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle with fictitious license plates. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Brandon Mallon (39), fled and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit went southbound outside of the city but then came north back into the city lasting approximately 15 minutes. Mallon pulled into the parking lot at the Grand Hotel, struck a metal gate, and continued south on Gay St. where his vehicle was stopped by a Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputy. Mallon then fled on foot and was apprehended without incident.
Once Mallon was arrested, it was discovered that he had two felony warrants out of Morrow County. During a search of Mallon’s vehicle, a loaded firearm and a large amount of narcotics were seized.
Assisting in the pursuit were members of the Mount Vernon Police Department, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Mallon was charged with Felony-2 Aggravated possession of drugs, Felony-3 Weapons under disability, Felony-3 Failure to comply with the order or signal of a Police Officer, and Felony-4 Vandalism. He was indicted on these charges on April 8th, 2024. He is currently being held without bond, pending a hearing in Knox County Common Pleas Court.
