Barn Fire on Mount Vernon Avenue

CH411, CAPT415, E419, G412, G414, and Fredericktown EMS M441 were dispatched at 6:40 pm to Mount Vernon Avenue in Fredericktown on the report of a working barn fire. Mutual-aid was received from Mount Vernon Fire Department, Johnsville Fire Department (Morrow Co), and Jefferson Township Fire Department (Richland Co).
First units arriving on scene reported a working barn fire that was fully involved and being driven by the roughly 15mph winds.
Upon arrival, EMS crews assisted with tapping the hydrant across the street from the location of the fire to establish water supply. The crew of E419 stretched multiple 1 ¾”and 2 ½” lines for fire attack. FCFD personnel were assisted by incoming mutual-aid units for suppression and overhaul of the roughly 35×40 two-story barn.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported and none of the animals in the barn were lost in the fire. Other than damage to a pool deck that was attached to the barn, no other structures were damaged from the fire.
The barn was being heated by a wood burning stove that was in operation at the time of the fire. Investigation of the fire points to an area on the second floor above the stove is where the fire started.
All FCFD units were back in quarters by 9:06 pm and crews remained on station for a lengthy cleanup to get back in-service.
The FCFD appreciates the response by other agencies in the coordinated effort to save so much of the owner’s property.
