Right now in Knox County green, yellow, and red pieces of paper are being distributed to those who may need a little extra help.
This is a way to keep an extra eye on your neighbors. Essentially, the elderly or anyone vulnerable to COVID-19, instead of leaving their homes, can place a green piece of paper in their window if everything is okay. A yellow piece of paper would indicate they need someone to talk to, and if they need assistance with shopping, medication or transportation, they change it to red.
This is not for emergencies. Emergencies should always dial 9-1-1. Some area law enforcement agencies will also be checking in on homes if they notice a yellow or red paper to see if they can be of assistance.
