9-Month-Old Bitten in Face by Dog

On Monday, November 12, 2018, at approximately 9:50 AM the Mount Vernon Police Department and Mount Vernon EMS were dispatched to 1 South Jackson Street on a report of a dog that had bitten a 9-month-old female. The child’s mother, Renee Ballard, was present and reported a dog had bit her daughter in the face. The dog had to be forcefully separated from the child by persons at the residence. The child was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital where she is being treated for her injuries.

The dog was reported to be a Pit Bull, owned by Chris Ballard, the uncle of the victim. The dog had been at the residence several times and has no history of biting.

The dog was taken by the Knox County Animal Control Officer and is being held at this time.

No other details at this time. The case is still under investigation.
