On October 1, 2018, Twin Oak, along with 349 other schools across the United States, was named a 2018 Blue Ribbon School. Twin Oak joins East Elementary School (recognized as a Blue Ribbon School in 2014) as the two schools in the Mount Vernon City School District that have achieved this honor.
