Black Panther Movie Digital Artist to Speak at Free Movie Night

Rumors buzz of celebrity sightings around town as the film crew begins shooting the latest summer blockbuster hit. But what happens when the director yells, “Cut!” for the final time? After the lights go out and the celebrities go home, an army of talented individuals behind the scenes get to work to bridge the skills of artists and technicians to create what you see and hear on the big screen.

One of those creative “behind the scenes” talents, Brian McCann, will visit with us and share his insight at a free screening of his latest project, Marvel’s “Black Panther” (PG-13) on Wednesday, July 25. McCann will speak at 6:00 p.m. and the film will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon.

“Black Panther” has grossed $700 million and is ranked third in highest domestic gross films and ninth in highest gross films worldwide. Directed by Ryan Coogler, the superhero action film stars Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyon’o, Michael B. Jordan, Angela Bassett, Martin Freeman, Forest Whitaker and Andy Serkis.

McCann will share the skills and techniques used by the digital artist that bring about movie magic that most may take for granted. He has worked on nearly 30 films including blockbusters from Marvel, DC, and Disney. Students interested in pursuing a career in the field are encouraged to bring questions.

“Black Panther” provides a wonderful example of  digital art craft because of its exotic locales—from African savannahs to mountain strongholds. The visual tapestry highlights the colorful characters and action-packed storyline audiences come to expect from Marvel.
