Brown Bringing Central Ohio Holocaust Survivor to French President’s Wednesday Address

Fran Greenberg of Bexley, OH, was Born in Paris in 1937

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced he has invited Fran Greenberg of Bexley to attend French President Emmanual Macron’s address to a joint session of Congress Wednesday. Greenberg is a Holocaust survivor and native of Paris who moved to the United States in 1948. She has lived in Ohio for more than 50 years.

“I’m honored Ms. Greenberg will be in the audience to represent Ohio well as President Macron delivers his address. She is a tribute to the triumph of the human spirit and a reminder of why we must remain vigilant against hatred across the globe,” said Brown.

“I am very pleased to see that President Macron of France has taken the resurgence of French anti-Semitism very seriously.  The frightening move toward a nationalism of blood and soil all over the world cannot not be allowed to turn us back 70 years to those dark days.  I am eager to hear him share his thoughts and hope our own administration can respond similarly to the alarming expressions of racism and bigotry in this country,” said Ms. Greenberg.

President Macron will address a joint session of Congress Wednesday afternoon as part of his state visit to the U.S. Greenberg will meet with Brown Wednesday morning before heading to the Capitol to attend the address.

After the Holocaust, Greenberg moved from France to the United States at the age of 11, living with family in Pennsylvania. Greenberg has lived in Ohio for more than 50 years after she and her husband moved to the state to pursue job opportunities.
