Andrew Jackson Double Feature at Adult Book Discussion, Tuesday April 17

An Andrew Jackson double feature will be the focus of the Adult Book Discussion on Tuesday, April 17, 7:00 p.m. at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon.

“American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House,” the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Jon Meacham, and “Andrew Jackson and the Miracle of New Orleans,” by Brian Kilmeade and Don Yaeger, give us two perspectives into the life of this larger-than-life president.

Participants are invited to read one or both books for this discussion.

Considered the definitive biography of a man who defied norms, divided a nation, and changed Washington forever, Meacham’s “American Lion” looks at Jackson’s intimate circle of friends and the tumultuous times of a man who rose from nothing to create the modern presidency.

“Andrew Jackson and the Miracle of New Orleans,” is another hit from the authors of “George Washington and the Secret Six” and “Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates.” The book provides a portrait of the seventh American president by focusing on his formative military prowess during the War of 1812 and his contributions to capturing New Orleans from the British.

The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Copies of the books are available at any library location or can be purchased at area bookstores.
