40 Hour Integrated Peer Support Training

The Mental Health Recovery Board of Licking and Knox County is very excited to announce that they will be sponsoring a 40 hour Integrated Peer Supporter Training. This training is for individuals with a lived experience of mental health and/or substance use disorders that are in recovery and interested in certification to become an Ohio Peer Recovery Supporter (recovery coach/peer support specialist). It is free for qualified applicants. The training will be held on May 22-26, 2017 The location will be at Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road SE, Newark, Ohio. As of now, the training will begin at 8 am and end at 5 pm daily. Two certified Peer Support trainers will be provided by the state.

Qualified Applicants

Qualified applicants are required to reside or be employed in either Licking or Knox Counties. There are 22 available slots. This training is directed primarily at training prospective candidates to provide peer support services for recovery housing projects, The Main Place peer support staff, and other potential peer support services offered by MHR contracted providers. Peer support services may also want to be considered for use by the criminal justice system, including special docket courts, housing and homeless programs, and job and family services. Representatives from the courts and JFS may want to check with BHP, The Main Place, LAPP, or Freedom Center to see if they share a common candidate(s). There may be crossover.

Application Process******

1. People with interest should first review the explanation of the process for training and certification on the OhioMHAS website ( mha.ohio.gov). Information is found under the ‘Supports’ tab (on the home page) then under Peer Support. A full description and forms may be found there.
2. Any interested candidate that meets the above requirements must complete the OhioMHAS Peer Supporter Training Application. Please indicate that you want the Mental Health for Licking and Knox Counties training on May 22 – 26, 2017. This is found on line with instructions. See above for where it is found on the OhioMHAS website.
3. People are also required to take 16 hours of pre-course work on line prior to the training. Instructions on how to access the on line training will be provided by OhioMHAS once an individual is accepted to the 40 hour training.
4. Attendance for all training is mandatory to receive the final certification, there are no opportunities to make-up work. Applicants must be able to commit to the full 40 hours.
