Fatal Motorcycle Accident

 

On May 2, 2024 at 4:36 PM Officers of the Mount Vernon Police Department and Emergency Personnel from the Mount Vernon Fire Department responded to a reported two-vehicle accident on Columbus Road near the intersection of South Main Street. It was reported that the accident involved a motorcycle and a commercial dump truck.
Upon the officers’ arrival a single male victim, Robert (Bob) Staats, age 73, from Mount Vernon, was located. Mr. Staats was declared deceased at this time from apparent injuries sustained in the accident.
Due to the nature of the accident, the Mount Vernon Police Department requested assistance from the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSP). Upon the arrival of OSP Troopers, the accident scene was turned over to OSP as the lead investigative agency for the incident.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is actively investigating this incident and further updates will be released through them. There have been no charges nor citations issued at this time pending the outcome of the investigation.
