Man Charged in North Mulberry Street Murder Being Held Without Bond

On October 26, 2023, at approximately 3:25 AM officers of the Mount Vernon Police Department responded to a reported stabbing at a residence in the 700 block of North Mulberry Street.

Upon their arrival, the officers made entry into the residence and located a single female victim. The victim was deceased at this time and there were no other persons in the residence. At this time Detectives from the Mount Vernon Police Department were called to the scene along with investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).

Officers also responded to a residence in the 700 block of West High Street where the initial 911 call originated from. When officers arrived at this location they detained Chad R. Taylor (age 44) as a suspect in the incident.

At approximately 6:43 AM the suspect Chad R. Taylor was transported to the Knox County Jail and charged with a single count of Aggravated Murder. The suspect is being held without bond at this time.

As the investigation continues further details of the incident will be released as appropriate. In accordance with the provisions of Ohio’s Marsy’s Law, the victim’s identification will not be released at this time.
