Wildlife Wednesday – The Northern Map Turtle

We’ve found our way to another #WildlifeWednesday from our Ohio Division of Wildlife!
Northern map turtles are common in the Buckeye State but are wary of humans and show a marked preference for the deep water of large rivers and lakes.
The map turtle’s name is derived from the network of fine yellow lines that resemble the contour lines on a topographic map.
The broad, flat crushing surfaces of the powerful jaws are well suited for consuming snails, crayfish and clams, which form the bulk of the diet.
