Background

Habitat for Humanity of Knox County, Ohio (HFHKCO), is a small rural affiliate of Habitat for Humanity in North Central Ohio. We currently build one new home a year, as well as mobility ramps for homeowners who need help with entering and exiting their homes. With the addition of this position, we are hopeful that we can increase our capacity and serve more families through our home and ramp building programs, as well as through other programs that may develop to meet the needs of Knox County residents.

The construction manager reports directly to the Affiliate Director. The position is a full-time, hourly position. Habitat for Humanity of Knox County employees are given paid holidays and Paid Time Off. While we are unable to offer any retirement benefits or health insurance at this time, we are looking for ways to better care for the employees that contribute to the success of the affiliate.

Roles & Responsibilities

Home Design & Construction

  • Oversee the construction process on all HFHKCO projects
  • Lead on-site construction including supervision of volunteer crew leaders and large volunteer groups
  • Create a positive and rewarding work atmosphere
  • Procure construction materials and labor through a competitive bid process
  • Assist the Affiliate Director in development of labor donations and in-kind materials
  • Maintain a safe worksite, ensuring all safety guidelines are followed and that training is provided to volunteers

Planning & Budgeting

  • Create schedules and budgets for the entire scope of HFHKCO projects
  • Evaluate potential sites for feasibility
  • Prepare a materials list from plans, organize the ordering process, and monitor delivery of materials
  • Develop working relationships with local subcontractors
  • Assist the Affiliate Director regarding the application and approval of permits, inspections, and other specifications as required

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversee volunteer site supervisors
  • Supervise volunteers with a variety of skill levels
  • Teach and explain various skills involved in the construction process
  • Work with the Affiliate Director to provide communication with the board
  • Be a member of an active construction committee
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Affiliate Director

Education & Experience

  • Knowledge and experience in the residential construction industry. Experience in teaching construction skills is a plus.
  • Basic mathematical skills to calculate building measurements, quantities, etc.
  • Experience in managing teams
  • Safety and first-aid training is a plus
  • Basic computer skills
  • Background check required

Reports to: Affiliate Director

Employment Status: Full Time Hourly

Salary: $19.00- $21.00/ Hour with Paid Time Off
