Wildlife Wednesdays – Free Fishing Days

Welcome to Wildlife Wednesdays from your Ohio Division of Wildlife! Since it is Free Fishing Days this coming weekend (June 20-21) for Ohio residents, let’s spotlight the Walleye which is part of the perch family. Lake Erie walleyes spawn throughout April when water temperature is 40-50°F. Eggs are scattered over gravel or reef areas of Lake Erie or in the riffle areas of tributary streams. Females can lay as many as 400,000 eggs. Enjoy the fishing this weekend in the buckeye state and always remember to stay safe outdoors! Ohio’s Lake Erie Shores & Islands
