Over 2400 Bald Eagle Nests Reported

We are thrilled to announce that we received over 2,400 reports of bald eagle nests in Ohio! We will spend the next couple weeks finalizing confirmations of nest locations and plan to have the full report available in late April, on Earth Day.

Citizen scientists have helped document nest locations since February 1st, 2020. Within the first two weeks of the effort, we received more than 1,000 reports and confirmed 215 nests. Bald eagles are known to have one active nest and within their territory and may have additional nests that have been abandoned. Since bald eagles reuse nest locations year after year, nests are strong data collection points for bald eagle pairs.

Eagle nests are constructed with large sticks and may be lined with moss, grass, plant stalks, lichens, or sod. Nests are usually about 4-6 feet in diameter and 3 feet deep, although larger nests exist.
