It’s been a long road, a lot of hard work, tough decisions, but the day has come. This morning started another new chapter for the Fredericktown Community Fire District with the official hiring of two full-time members for the daytime hours (Monday-Friday). Congratulations to Lt. Kevin Suain and Lt. Jeremy Moss who were selected for the position.

Lt. Suain and Moss are highly dedicated to the community and their department. Both can be found frequently at the firehouse, training, learning, going the extra mile, and maintaining a high level of run responses for the FCFD.

The addition of the two daytime personnel does not change the need of the strong backbone of volunteers at the FCFD. Volunteer members will still be responding, the addition of a crew on station just makes that response out the door significantly faster.

In addition to the daytime staffing, a select number of firefighters were chosen for “backfill” positions in the event a full-time person is off, sick, or attending a training.

Over the last 13 years since Chief Scott Mast took his position with the district, we have continually strived to improve our level of service within the community. Improved equipment, safety gear, raising the bar on firefighter training, new apparatus that support and push the mission of the FCFD, and so much more. The addition of daytime staffing is just the latest that will change the way we do things for the better.

Over the course of the history of firefighting in the Fredericktown area, there have been many changes, many advancements, and in fact the department known by several names. The first mention of paid firefighting that we have found documented dates back to 1905 when we were known/recorded as the “Fredericktown Fire Company”. At that time we supported 13 paid men and were stationed at the two-story brick city building, which was in the parking lot across from the current Municipal Building.

We greatly appreciate the support of our community neighboring departments, fire board (past and present), firefighters, cadets, and most importantly our families at home. Thank you for your support!
