Earth Day Celebration

Earth Week is upon us and we invite you to join us as we participate with the hosts of the Earth Day Celebration, The Brown Family Environmental Center. This event will be held on April 21 from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the Brown Family Environmental Center located on Laymon Road, Gambier. There will be many river activities providing the water level of the Kokosing River is safe at the Laymon Road River Access located at 10115 Laymon Road, Gambier. PARKING FOR THE RIVER EVENTS SHOULD BE AT THE ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER ONLY. Brian Zimmerman an OSU Research Associate will be on hand beginning at 12:15 p.m. to conduct a fish safari and explore all the species of fish in the Kokosing River. Brian is very knowledgeable about fish species in Ohio and has a passion for them. At 1:00 you can explore macroinvertebrates with ODNR and at 2:00 you can fish with us in the river. All equipment and live bait will be provided.

The Columbus Zoo, Ohio Wildlife Center, and Ohio Bird Sanctuary will also be present with live animals to “meet.” You don’t want to miss this FREE event! Meet live raptors, mammals, reptiles, and insects. Make-and-take bluebird boxes, bat boxes and more! Visit the Scenic Rivers booth near the Kokosing River, weather permitting. Live music and a food truck will round out the afternoon.
