Free Movie Night Featuring “Green Book” (PG-13)

The Academy Award-winning film, “Green Book” (PG-13), will be featured at Free Movie Night on Wednesday, March 13, 6:30 p.m., at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon.

The film was the 2019 winner of three Academy Awards: Best Picture, Original Screenplay, and Actor in a Supporting Role (Mahershala Ali).

Dr. Don Shirley is a world-class African-American pianist, who is about to embark on a concert tour in the Deep South in 1962. In need of a driver and protection, Shirley recruits Tony “Tony Lip” Vallelonga, a tough-talking bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx. Despite their differences, the two men soon develop an unexpected bond while confronting racism and danger in an era of segregation.

Written by Nick Vallelonga, the film is based on stories he heard from his dad, “Tony Lip.” He describes the movie as a story about a friendship and a “coming together of two guys on a long crazy roller coaster ride.”

The program is free and open to the public. Popcorn will be served. For more information call the main library at 740-392-BOOK (2665), visit www.knox.net or email communityrelations@knox.net.
