Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program Suspended

Starting Monday, March 16, United Way of Knox County will suspend the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program as a step to help prevent the risk of COVID-19/Coronavirus until such time we announce that it will resume.

“After consulting with the Knox County Health Commissioner, we feel it best to be proactive rather than reactive with this virus” commented Director Kelly Brenneman.

United Way’s Tax Preparation Assistance team assistance complete hundreds of taxpayers complete and submit tax returns between January and April. The VITA program offers free tax help to qualifying individuals, including persons on a limited income, persons with disabilities, and taxpayers 60 years of age and older. Ms. Brenneman continued “We would never want to put our respected clients or the community at risk. Clients will be contacted and will be rescheduled when we are advised to resume a normal schedule. The United Way will defer to guidance from Knox Public Health for a date when to recommence the program.”
