The Hiawatha Water Park is a relatively recent attraction in Mount Vernon, developing from the community pool, which had existed for many years.

It is a great place to take family and friends to cool off during the warmer weather and generally just let your hair down and have fun.

McDonald’s on Coshocton Avenue has one feature that stands out above any other fast food restaurant merely because of the indoor play place they provide. This play place allows for parents to let there kids safely play without having to worry about them getting covered with dirt.

Tim Horton’s Cafe & Bake Shop

Having never been to a Tim Horton’s before, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of pastries and cakes offered, in addition to the expected variety of beverages.

For the time of day, it was only to be expected that things were to be pretty quiet, with only 5 or 6 other customers partaking of a casual drink and chat with a friend.

Southside Diner

Southside Diner has been a favorite place of mine for the last 12 years, since moving to Mount Vernon. The atmosphere is very retro, 50’s style, with memorabilia from the era decorating the walls. From old 45’s to license plates, children’s toys to photographs of celebrities, most of whom are sadly no longer with us.

The Woodward Opera House

The Woodward Opera House is America’s oldest, authentic 19th Century theater still standing today. Records have established that the first performance dates back at least as far as December 8th-10th, 1851.

Two SAT (Save America’s Treasures) grants have been awarded to the restoration project of this theater, which has been progressing steadily, following the formation of the Woodward Development Corporation inn 1996.
