Death of Infant Being Investigated
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Knox County Coroner’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, are investigating the death of a one-month-old infant. These quarter-sized jellies pose no risk to people; their nematocysts (stinging cells) are too small to penetrate the skin. Freshwater jellyfish originate from China and first appeared in the Great Lake region in 1933.
