First Responders to Play in Showcase Softball Game

Event to feature friendly game between Police, Fire Departments

MOUNT VERNON, August 4, 2022 – The City of Mount Vernon will host a First Responders Showcase softball game on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022 at 6 p.m. The event will feature a friendly game between the Mount Vernon Police and Fire Departments.

The winner of the game will play a champion team supplied by the Knox County Church Softball League, which is led by Tony Bonsignor.

“We are always excited to find opportunities to engage in positive ways with our community,” said Police Lieutenant Andrew Burns, who is involved with organizing the event.

“Mount Vernon has always had very active softball programs and it feels like a great opportunity to allow our first responders a chance to get out and have some fun and build camaraderie,” said Josh Kirby, chair of the City Council’s Fire, Police and Civil Defense Committee.

The games will take place at the Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball field on Newark Road thanks to donations from sponsors MVNU Athletics, Kahrl and Company, Mr. Tax of Mount Vernon LLC and Working Class Roofing and Siding LLC.

The event promises to be fun for the whole family with bounce houses and the concessions stand open for food and beverages. There is no charge for the event, but donations will be accepted to benefit the award-winning PAK United program in Mount Vernon.

City Councilwoman Amber Keener, who has helped coordinate the activity, said, “I am so overwhelmed by the excitement and energy everyone has about this event. I would encourage everyone to come out, have some fun foods and enjoy the game!”

The rain date will Aug. 25, 2022.
