Social Services Aide
Part-time Social Services Aide 1 will be part of a team that works to restore and strengthen family function. Aide will reinforce household upkeep and maintenance, personal care, parent role modeling, provide care and/or mentoring for children, monitor child development and reinforce skills such as budgeting, nutrition, coping, self-control, organization and communication.
The minimum qualifications are as follows: Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition and subtraction, reading and speaking common vocabulary, and writing clearly. Also requires one course or six months experience in typing, keyboarding or word processing; and 1 course in interviewing or 1-month experience. Experience in the Social Services field is a plus. Or education, training and/or experience in an amount equal to the Minimum Qualification stated above. A successful applicant must also have a valid driver’s license, and acceptable driving record and access to a motor vehicle. Must meet and maintain all required training as a continued condition of employment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Transports or arranges transportation for children and adults to schools, clinics, doctors’/dentists’ offices and pharmacy.
- Supervises family visitation frequently including 2 to 3 evenings per week. * Regular and dependable attendance, and ability to get along with others.
- Records accurate, complete information, retrieving information from SACWIS.
- Types reports or case notes social summaries, rosters to document goods or services provided.
- Makes and returns phone calls as requested by social worker.
- Makes copies, searches files for client information.
- Monitors visits (if needed). Assists social workers in accurately filing paperwork as needed.
- Submits reports to worker as appropriate.
- Provides culturally competent service to all clients, the public and colleagues.
- Reports suspected child abuse or elder abuse as required.
- Provides court testimony on behalf of the agency at the direction of the JFS Prosecutor and/or supervisor.
- Attends appropriate training and meetings as requested.
Equipment: Individual uses the following equipment: Computer, printer, scanner, fax machine, calculator, telephone and copier. Individual uses appropriate personal protective equipment when necessary. Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.

- Proficiency in grammar, writing, mathematical skills, spelling, and punctuation;
- Thorough knowledge, adherence and aptitude to follow safety policies, procedures and practices; and
- Thorough knowledge, adherence and aptitude to follow federal, state, county, and department policies and procedures, laws and regulations.
DIFFICULTY OF WORK
Work consisting of complex, varied, standardized and non-standardized tasks requiring application of numerous laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Individual must be able to professionally address and work with potentially irate customers.
- Individual must demonstrate multi-tasking and organizational skills.
- Individual must adhere to departmental rules and procedures regarding confidentiality due to the nature of information that is accessed.
- Individual makes choices or decisions without supervisory input on some daily activities, such as establishing priorities or making referrals to other agencies.
- Supervisor does provide general guidance, but allows the individual the ability to plan the procedures and methods to accomplish objectives.
- Individual must perform as a team player. Errors in work may cause inaccuracies in reports, records, or technical data resulting in inaccurate or incomplete information. Errors could result in disruptions in the work of others for corrections, may cause substantial inconvenience to the client, and negatively affect the agency’s credibility. Errors may also lead to lawsuits against the County.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS
Individual has direct contact with clients, management, co-workers, other county partners, law enforcement, employer representatives, and other county children services agencies. The purpose of these contacts is to guide and direct, check on progress of work assigned, coordinating services, and referrals, make recommendations and handle questions about department, programs and client concerns.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical Requirements: Individual performs light work, which may require lifting up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
- Individual performs the following physical activities: crouching, reaching, lifting, pulling, standing, walking, manual dexterity, grasping, talking, sitting and hearing.
- Visual Activity:
- Individual may perform computer work where the seeing job is close to the eyes. Job Location: The minimum work conditions for the position indicate that the individual is exposed to both inside and outside. Individual is also exposed to noise
