Kenyon College is conducting a search to fill the position of Development Coordinator for the Development Department within the Advancement Division. The successful candidate for this position will join a supportive, high-performing team, with opportunities to meaningfully contribute to the successes of the Development Department. Due to the generosity of 18,000+ donors, Kenyon recently concluded the first phase of the record-breaking Our Path Forward Campaign, surpassing the $300M goal five months ahead of schedule. Fueled by a $100M anonymous gift to fund the construction of three new apartment-style residence halls, and a new $25M matching opportunity in support of scholarships for low-income students, we continue the campaign until 2024 as Our Path Forward to the Bicentennial. The new $500M goal provides exciting opportunities for Kenyon, and for all of the professionals in our Division.

This position will report to the Associate Vice President for Development, and work closely with the Director of Planned Giving and Director of 50th Reunion Programs.

Job Responsibilities

Planned Giving Office

The Planned Giving Office works with alumni and friends of the College to encourage philanthropy via estates, life income gifts, or gifts of complex assets. In support of these endeavors, the Coordinator will:

  • Partner in estate administration processes. Often this means corresponding with attorneys, financial advisors, trustees, and executors to collect estate gifts designated to Kenyon.
  • Work with partners across campus, particularly in the Office of Finance and the Office of the President, to ensure fundraising regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with stewarding members of our legacy giving society in conjunction with the DPG, major gift officers, and colleagues in Donor Relations.
  • Ensure maximum impact of marketing materials by updating alumni records, requesting distribution lists, and sharing requested information with prospective donors.
  • Utilize superior organizational skills to maintain donor records, complete forms, and prompt others for information when required.

50th Reunion Program

The 50th Reunion is a hallmark event at Kenyon. Working alongside the Director of 50th Reunion Programs, the Coordinator will:

  • Expertly navigate multiple databases and software platforms to create distribution lists, analyze outputs, and ensure coordination of information with other departments in the Advancement division.
  • Provide excellent project management skills in support of communication and marketing efforts.
  • Assist with event management, particularly virtual or in person class committee meetings.
  • Interact with alumni volunteers to share information about the 50th Reunion Program and support their efforts on behalf of the College.
  • Manage day-to-day tasks related to scheduling, answering phones, and managing email.

Associate Vice President for Development 

In addition to management of the entire Development team,the AVP serves as a principal point of contact for the Gund Gallery and Kenyon Review partner organizations. The AVP also supports the work of the Vice President for Advancement and the Campaign Leadership Committee. At the direction of the AVP, the Coordinator will:

  • Facilitate relationship building and maintenance among key individuals and groups, ensuring cross departmental and divisional collaboration and communication that enhances the objectives and goals of the Advancement Division.
  • Manage all aspects of key projects as determined by the AVP for Development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree with relevant experience.
  • Two or more years working in a not-for-profit or development/fundraising setting or professional office environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong multitasking and time management skills; ability to establish and meet goals and deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in entering and reviewing data.
  • Computer literacy with virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, GoogleMeet) and strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
  • Manual and physical ability to work for sustained periods on a computer both in-office and, on location for events.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasionally on evenings and weekends.
  • Desire to take initiative and work with minimal supervision is essential.
  • Discretion in dealing with confidential information and demonstrated willingness to uphold high ethical standards.
  • Current valid driver’s license and insurable under Kenyon’s liability policy.
