Governor DeWine Statement on Ohio Statehouse Vandalism

(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Ohio Governor DeWine has issued the following statement:

“I have spoken with Ohio State Highway Patrol Col. Richard Fambro about security at the Statehouse, and I shared with him my anger and disgust at the vandalism that occurred at the Ohio Statehouse yesterday.  I support the right to peacefully protest. However, defacing, damaging, and vandalizing our state capitol and its grounds are wrong, and such actions are criminal. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is conducting a criminal investigation into yesterday’s acts, and they will send their findings to the appropriate authorities for potential prosecution.”

  1. I’m a Progressive Democrat. I did not vote for Mike DeWine. However, I commend him for his decision to hire Dr. Amy Acton to Head the State Health Department. I understand her change to the position for which she was originally hired. And I strongly condemn both the Ohio Assembly who demanded her powers be diminished and those armed Domestic Terrorists who intimidated her and her family. I also strongly condemn these looters, vandals and thieves. They live here and they are petty and merely opportunistic.

But their actions speak to a bigger problem. Are these people hired and being paid to cause trouble? Are they desperate and poor and angry? But I believe these are in the minority. I believe in the basic goodness of most people. It’s not about party. It’s about humanity and EQUALITY for all. We must end the racism. We must end police brutality and militarization. We must deal with the virus and sadly trump is the worst person to do that.
