Creative Writing Workshops Offered

This fall, the Kenyon Review is teaming up with Paragraphs Bookstore and the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County to offer free weekly creative writing workshops to elementary, middle, and high school students. Workshops are led by Kenyon College students and provide a fun, creative, and supportive setting for kids to develop their writing skills. Each week, participants read and discuss a poem or story and then respond to a creative writing prompt.  They also play word games and make writing-related arts and crafts.  Rose Paulson, a Kenyon Review Intern and senior English major, has been helping to run these workshops for the past three years and says, “It’s been a great experience for me as a writer and as someone considering a career in teaching. I think I learn as much from the kids as they do from me!”

Paragraphs Bookstore is hosting Elementary Workshops on Thursdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. and Middle School Workshops on Saturdays from 1:00-2:00 p.m.  Please contact Paragraphs Bookstore at 740-392-9290 for more information and to register for Elementary and Middle School Workshops.  The Teen Writing Program takes place on Mondays from 4:00-5:30 p.m at the Mount Vernon Public Library.  High School students may register for this workshop by calling 740-392-BOOK ext. 224.
