Court of appeals Affirms Drug Conviction of Frank Lewis

The Fifth District Court of Appeals has overruled Frank Lewis’ appeal of the suppression ruling in his case, affirming his conviction and 30-month sentence for Aggravated Possession of Drugs, a third-degree felony.

Lewis was pulled over by MVPD after exceeding a posted speed limit by four miles per hour. Police discovered that Lewis had a bulk amount of methamphetamine after a K9 sniff of the vehicle. Lewis argued that his speed did not give police reasonable suspicion to stop his vehicle. The court rejected this argument, stating that “a single suspected traffic violation provides reasonable suspicion for an officer to stop a vehicle.”

Lewis is currently incarcerated at the Pickaway Correctional Institution.

Prosecutor McConville briefed and argued the case on behalf of the State.
