A Universe of Stories Reading Program and Summer Activities

Join us for “A Universe of Stories” Adult Summer Reading Program, June 1-July 13 at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County.

All library programs are free and open to the public. All programs are located in the A/B meeting room unless otherwise stated. Each patron in attendance will receive an entry form to be entered into a prize giveaway.

June 4, 1:00-1:45 PM: Zumba @ Schnormeier Event Center, Ariel-Foundation Park

June 5, 12:00-1:00 PM: Brown Bag Chat featuring Knox County Parks District with Lori Totman

June 5, 6:30-8:00 PM: Stephen King Book Club, Part 1, featuring “IT”

June 11, 1:00-3:00 PM: Summer Make & Take (All materials provided)

June 11, 1:00-1:45 PM: Zumba @ Schnormeier Event Center, Ariel-Foundation Park.

June 11, 6:30-8:00 PM: Adult Book Discussion. “2001: A Space Odyssey” by Arthur Clarke

June 12, 12:00-1:00 PM: Brown Bag Chat Cooking Club. “Far Out Cooking.” Prepare a dish that is out of the ordinary to share with the recipe

June 13, 1:30 PM: Free family-friendly movie double feature: “ET” then “Space Jam.” Free popcorn and refreshments

June 18, 1:00-1:45 PM: Zumba @ Schnormeier Event Center, Ariel-Foundation Park

June 19, 12:00-1:00 PM: Brown Bag Chat featuring “The Weather Man.” Library Director John Chidester will share stories from his time in the military as a weather man and the time he created two UFO’s. Demonstration included.

June 19, 6:30-7:30 PM: Presentation by the Warren Rupp Observatory. The Warren Rupp Observatory is the home of “Big Blue”, a 36″ Newtonian telescope.

June 20, 6:30-8:30 PM: Keep Calm and Color On–a relaxing coloring program for teens and adults. (All materials provided or bring your own)

June 25, 1:00-1:45 PM: Zumba @ Schnormeier Event Center, Ariel-Foundation Park

June 26, 12:00-1:00 PM: Brown Bag Chat featuring Jim Gibson and his collection of stories by Dr. Seuss

June 26, 6:30-8:30 PM: Movie Night featuring “First Man” (PG-13). The film is based on the life of astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon.

July 2, 6:30-8:00 PM: Stephen King Book Club: “IT” Part 2

July 3, 12:00-1:45 PM: Brown Bag Chat Documentary “The Last Man on the Moon” (TV-MA), featuring stories from Gene Cernan, the last astronaut to step on the moon

July 9, 8:00-9:00 PM: “Science on Saturn” with Amber Hawkins @ the Urton Clock House, Ariel-Foundation Park.

July 10, 12:00-2:00 PM: End of Summer Reading Program Party in the Parking Lot. Join us for a celebration of the end of the 2019 Summer Reading Program with local band Frye’d Catfish, corn hole, food and giveaways.
