United Way of Knox County and FamilyWize Use Data to Help Local Community Battle Heart Disease, Diabetes & Mental Illness

United Way of Knox County and FamilyWize announced Wednesday that local Knox County members have saved $102,229 on prescription heart disease, diabetes and mental health medications between 2013 and 2016.  The results come as United Way and FamilyWize launch a new aggressive, data-driven chapter in its joint community initiatives across the country.  Using targeted data reports created by FamilyWize, local United Ways can now better evaluate what assistance their communities need most, rather than trying to piece together a story using only national-level and state-level reporting.

Key community highlights from the data report for Knox County include:

  • $46,787 savings on prescription heart disease & diabetes medications
  • $55,442 savings on prescription mental health medications
  • 514 total community members helped

The FamilyWize program is free and saved participants an average of 40 percent off of their prescription medications in 2016. Accepted at more than 60,000 pharmacies nationwide and covering all FDA-approved prescription medications, the FamilyWize card has no eligibility requirements and is available to anyone. To sign up for the program, visit www.familywize.org, download the Apple or Android mobile app, or print out the card. The card is also available at uwayknox.org.

Since 2005, FamilyWize has helped over 10 million Americans live healthier lives by saving them more than $1 billion on prescription medications. By aggregating large groups of patients, FamilyWize advocates and negotiates for deep discounts on prescription medications which it then passes on in full to patients. FamilyWize partners with some of the most respected community groups and health care providers in the country, including United Way Worldwide, National Council for Behavioral Health, Mental Health America, and American Heart Association, among thousands of other community organizations.
