MTVarts Announces Cast for Our Town

Educational Outreach and Public Performances for Classics Series

Mount Vernon OH – 04/01/2023MTVarts proudly presents the cast of Thornton Wilder’s iconic play Our Town.  The play will be presented May 5th, 6th, and 7th at Knox Memorial Theater as part of MTVarts educational outreach, Classics Series.

Most renowned and most frequently performed.

First produced and published in 1938, this Pulitzer Prize–winning drama has become an American classic and is Thornton Wilder’s most renowned and most frequently performed play.  Our Town presents the small town of Grover’s Corners in three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage” and “Death and Eternity.” Narrated by a stage manager (Stephen Stone) and performed with minimal props and sets, the play depicts the simple daily lives of two families, the Webbs (Jeff Scott, Stephanie Scott, Mackenzie Leland, Briggs Swallow) and the Gibbs (Thor Collard, Maureen Browning, Christopher Hartman, Izzy Cook).

Our Town is infused with characters, some long removed from our 21st-century life, that reflect our ordinary lives; the Milkman (Mason Mickley), the town Constable (Chuck Rogers) the local professor (Glenn Hissong), the town gossip (Jacquline Allen), the church organist struggling with alcoholism (John Humphrey), the newspaper carriers (Andrew Petersen, Zach Cramer), and those now residing in the cemetery on the hill. The ensemble includes: Kate Ernsberger, Caddy Haws, Norita Hissong, Annaliese Scott, Ashlyn Scott, Auralie Yoder, Owen Cook, Antonio Rojas, Billy Woodring, and John Yoder.

Our Town is the simple story of a love affair constantly rediscovered because it asks timeless questions about the meaning of love, life and death. “Oh, earth, you’re too wonderful for anybody to realize you. Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it — every, every minute?”
