Swimming pool set to open for the season on May 27
MOUNT VERNON, March 21, 2023 – The City of Mount Vernon is seeking several seasonal workers to staff the Hiawatha Water Park and Swimming Pool this summer. The facility will open for the season on Saturday, May 27.
The City has entered into contract with Columbus Pool Management to operate the Hiawatha Water Park and Pool this year, and is currently looking to hire pool managers, lifeguards, concession and pool gate attendants and pool cleaners. The positions, which begin in May and end at the close of Hiawatha’s season on Aug. 19, are ideally suited for teenagers and college students.

In addition, pool membership rates are unchanged from last year. Swimming lessons will not be included in those fees; the City will have more information on those classes soon.
In most cases, job openings at the Water Park are for both part-time and full-time positions. Pool manager is a full-time position. Lifeguarding certification is required for this position, while lifeguards must also be American Red Cross-certified. Lifeguard training is provided by Columbus Pool Management for an up-front cost. No experience is necessary to apply for concession and pool gate attendant, or for pool cleaner. Pool cleaners work from 6 to 11 a.m.
The swimming pool’s hours this season, beginning May 27, will be from noon to 7:45 p.m. The manager will determine pool closures due to inclement weather, and when the air temperature is below 70 degrees the pool will not open. The pool will close for the season on Saturday, Aug. 19.
Through April 30, the early discounted seasonal rate for household membership (limit four people) will once again be $200, or $250 for non-residents. Residents must live within the Mount Vernon City School District. Early individual rates (ages 6-59) for residents are $95 ($125 for non-residents), early rates for children (ages 1-5) are $50 ($75 non-resident), and early rates for seniors (ages 60 and up) are $50 ($80 non-resident).
After May 1, seasonal rates for resident households climb to $220 ($270 non-resident), to $105 for individuals ($145 non-resident), to $60 for children ($85 non-resident) and to $65 for seniors ($90 non-resident). Lap swimming for adults (age 18 and over) will only be from 11 a.m. to noon Monday through Saturday for $45 for the season.
Daily pool rates will once again be $8 for individuals from noon to 5 p.m. ($6 after 5 p.m.), $5 for children ($4 after 5), $7 for seniors ($5 after 5), while children under age 1 are admitted free.
