New Year’s Resolutions Get a Boost with Scholarships Available for Ohioans Resolving to Upgrade their Education and Careers in 2023

COLUMBUS, OH – As Ohioans start making their New Year resolutions for 2023, Western Governors University (WGU Ohio) is offering $2,500 scholarships to help busy, working adults who want to upgrade their education, job skills and earning power.

“The start of a brand-new year gives Ohioans a golden opportunity to plan for a brighter future for themselves and their families,” said Dr. K.L. Allen, chancellor of WGU Ohio. “Our New Year Scholarship is designed to make those dreams a reality with transformational benefits that can last a lifetime.”

Allen says the financial impact of a WGU scholarship may also be combined with the State of Ohio’s $2,500 Second Chance Grant, which is helping Ohioans restart their college careers by obtaining a degree or credential. These types of grants are in addition to a wide variety of scholarships and other financial aid offered by Ohio’s colleges and universities to help students defer the cost of their education.

Western Governors University was founded in 1997 by a coalition of 19 U.S. state governors as a way to offer their citizens – particularly adult learners – the chance to go to college from home, at their own pace, while holding jobs and caring for their families. In 2018, Ohio became the eighth additional state to partner with WGU to offer its degree programs in health and nursing, business, teaching, and information technology. Since that time, WGU Ohio as an accredited, nonprofit university has helped nearly 9,000 Ohio students receive the education and skills they need to pursue in-demand careers.
