MOUNT VERNON — The annual Food For The Hungry Drive officially kicks off Tuesday, Nov. 1 as a community-wide effort to raise food and funds for Interchurch Social Services, The Salvation Army, and other ministries and organizations throughout the county that support food initiatives. This year, FFTH has established a financial goal of $250,000 and hopes to collect as many non-perishable food items as the community can donate.
The rising of inflation this year has impacted the community. Earlier this month, a report showed the price of food we purchased in our grocery stores has risen 13.5% annually. Various COVID relief programs have ended, including increased governmental aid to agencies like the Mid-Ohio Food Collective (formerly known as Mid-Ohio Food Bank), which is a major source of food for the agencies that are supported through FFTH. It is reported this year that the buying power of $1 at the Mid-Ohio Food Collective has FALLEN from $11.00 to $5.22.
FFTH is confident that those less fortunate in this community can continue to count on our generous donors to help disrupt the food insecurity in Knox County.
