Western Governors University Ohio Offering Scholarships to Night Shift Workers

COLUMBUS – Western Governors University Ohio (WGU Ohio) has announced another innovative effort in their mission to help all students—especially adults with other obligations like family or work—have easy, convenient, affordable ways to advance their careers by obtaining their degree. This time their new effort is focused on those workers on the night shift whose schedules can make it especially hard to access existing brick-and-mortar higher education programs.

“So much essential work is done while the rest of us sleep, but those who do this work rarely get properly recognized. At WGU Ohio we wanted to change that and give kudos to night shift workers for their diligence, dedication, and passion for helping others,” said WGU Ohio Chancellor Dr. K.L. Allen. “It can be especially hard for these professionals to find ways to go back to school to learn new skills and advance their careers which is why we are creating new scholarships just to help meet their needs. They deserve it.”

WGU Ohio’s new night shift scholarship is for up to $4,000. Additionally, it can be used in any of its bachelor’s or master’s degree programs. Applications can be submitted now and the application window will be open until December 31, 2022. More information is available at www.wgu.edu/nightshift.

Western Governors University was founded in 1997 by a coalition of 19 U.S. state governors as a way to offer their citizens – particularly adult learners – the chance to go to college from home, at their own pace, while holding jobs and caring for their families. In 2018, Ohio became the eighth additional state to partner with WGU to offer its degree programs in health and nursing, business, teaching, and information technology. Since that time, WGU Ohio as an accredited, nonprofit university has helped nearly 8,200 Ohio students receive the education and skills they need to pursue in-demand careers.
