COLUMBUS – Troopers from the Columbus Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on US-33 eastbound near milepost 30 in Canal Winchester, Franklin County. The crash occurred at approximately 9:25 p.m. on Sunday, July 24.
A 2008 BMW 135i, driven by Marcello F. Carenzio, 19, Canal Winchester, was traveling northwest on US-33 near milepost 30 in Canal Winchester, Franklin County. The BMW traveled off the left side of the roadway, crossed the median, and struck two vehicles traveling southeast on US-33. The BMW struck a 2012 Buick Regal, driven by Emily Alvarez, 22, Defiance, and a 2014 Ford Explorer, driven by Danielle N. Webb, 30, Lancaster. Ms. Alvarez was transported from the scene to Mount Carmel East in critical condition. Mr. Carenzio and Ms. Webb succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash at the scene.
Speed appears to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
