Brown, Moran, Leahy Introduce Resolution Honoring 20th Anniversary of Mcgovern-Dole Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program

WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 19, 2022 – Today, U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Jerry Moran (R-KS), and Patrick Leahy (D-VT) along with their colleagues in the Senate Hunger Caucus introduced a resolution expressing their commitment to build on 20 successful years of the George McGovern-Robert Dole Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program.

“All children deserve access to nutritious foods. No child should go hungry,” said Sen. Brown. “For 20 years, the George McGovern-Robert Dole Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program has made healthy meals and primary education accessible for students, especially girls, in developing countries worldwide. This bipartisan, bicameral resolution honors the program’s positive impact and Senator McGovern and Senator Dole’s leadership.”

Since its establishment in 2002, the George McGovern-Robert Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program has provided nutritional resources, literacy and primary education for school-age children, particularly young girls. This program was named after Sen. George McGovern of South Dakota and Sen. Bob Dole of Kansas, who were advocates for providing nutritional and educational aid to children around the world. This program aims to improve food security for these children through the donation of U.S. agricultural commodities.

In addition to Brown, Moran and Leahy, this legislation was cosponsored by Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Benjamin Cardin (D-MD), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Roy Blunt (R-MO), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Angus King (I-ME), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Patty Murray (D-WA), John Boozman (R-AR) and Roger Wicker (R-MS).
