Brown Announces More Than $3.2 Million to Improve Airports in Central Ohio

WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 9, 2022 – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded six grants to county governments and airport authorities located in Central Ohio, totaling $3,248,413. The funds will be used to help make repairs to airports and their critical infrastructure.

“Ohio airports are vital infrastructure supporting travel and commerce in our state,” said Brown. “These investments will provide airports in Central Ohio with the resources they need to ensure the safety of their passengers and support the local economy for years to come.”

DOT funds include:

  • $76,500 grant to the City of Marion to support the Marion Municipal Airport. The project intends to rehabilitate the existing terminal apron pavement to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement and minimize foreign object debris.
  • $1,440,119 grant to the Pickaway County Airport Authority & Pickaway County Commissioners to support Pickaway County Memorial Airport. The project intends to rehabilitate runway to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement and rehabilitate the existing lighting system. The funds were made possible through the American Rescue Plan, which Brown helped write and pass.
  • $670,837 grant to the Knox County Commissioners & Knox County Airport Authority to reconstruct the existing Apron D pavement, taxilane A pavement, taxilane C pavement, and taxilane D pavement.
  • $92,565 grant to the Morrow County Airport Authority & County Commissioners to support the Morrow County Airport. The project intends to allow the airport to acquire one new carrier vehicle with a plow attachment to enhance the airport’s ability to clear the airfield during adverse weather conditions.
  • $190,395 grant to the Madison County Airport Authority & Madison County Commissioners to reconstruct the existing taxiway A pavement.
  • $777,997 grant to the Columbus Regional Airport Authority to support the John Glenn Columbus International Airport to rehabilitate some of the existing taxilane pavement.

The FAA supports public-use airports included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) through the Airport Improvement Program.
