Wildlife Wednesday – The Buff-Breasted Sandpiper

Wildlife Wednesday time from your Ohio Division of Wildlife as we spotlight a waterbird that breeds in the high Artic – the buff-breasted sandpiper.
The buff-breasted sandpiper is a dapper, plover-like sandpiper that only accidentally visits Ohio in the spring; almost all of our existing records of this bird come from the fall months. This species breeds just about as far north as possible in the high Arctic. When on their breeding grounds this shy bird becomes much more extroverted and the males launch into elaborate courtships.
