Global Scholars Graduation

On Tuesday, April 19th, MVHS Global Scholars participants visited Otterbein University to partake in the Graduation Ceremony/Take Action Project Fair. The Columbus Council on World Affairs, which created this program and organized all Global Scholars Diploma events, should be applauded for creating such a meaningful experience.

There were nearly 1000 students from 20 school districts present. The two-part event had all of the third-year students present their Take Action Project completed throughout the year to the rest of the students and visitors during the morning.  Their project centered around a global issue the scholars became passionate about during their first two years of the program.

The second half of the event highlighted the Global Scholars Graduation Ceremony with Angela An, 10tv News Anchor serving as the main speaker.   Our seniors were grateful to receive this recognition for their efforts.  It is an understatement to say that the last two years have been challenging, but these students remained dedicated to becoming globally competent individuals.  They honored their commitment to the program and did so with a genuine desire to learn.

The five seniors from MVHS are listed below, along with their projects.  Use the keypad or mouse to advance the slides.

Mount Vernon City Schools is very fortunate to have these impressive individuals as students.

Ella Ackert – Reducing Single-Use Plastic Waste

Alexander Murray – E-Waste and Disposal

Sophia Percy – Mental Health in Rural Communities

Abigail Taylor – Diversity in Literature

Madelyn Sinsel – Human Rights

MVHS principal Cory Caughlan stated, “This is a great experience that helps our students explore different cultures and learn from peers. I want to thank Mr. Tocheff and Ms. Bishop personally for leading these students in this endeavor.”
