Jury Convicts Andrew Cook of Rape

Wednesday afternoon, a Knox County jury handed down a guilty verdict against Andrew Cook on a single count of rape. Cook, 41, was indicted for the September 2020 incident which occurred in Mount Vernon. After hearing testimony over a day and a half, the jury deliberated about 90 minutes before voting to convict.
Cook will be sentenced on April 21. He faces a three-to-eleven year sentence on the charge. In addition, he will serve a five-year term of parole and be required to register a sex offender for life upon his release from prison.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Christine Williams presented the case in court. The investigation was performed by Det. James DeChant of the Mount Vernon Police Department.
