Parking facility at 5 N. Gay St. shut down until further notice
MOUNT VERNON, March 17, 2022 – The Municipal Parking Garage at 5 N. Gay St. will be closed to the public beginning Friday, March 18, 2022. All public vehicles must be removed from the facility by midnight tonight.
The City of Mount Vernon’s structural engineer consultant recently performed an inspection of the garage, and has identified some concerns that need to be remedied, according to City Engineer Brian Ball. More details on those repairs will be released as they become available.
The lower level of the parking garage is closed to all vehicles until further notice. The middle and upper levels of the facility will be open to City-owned vehicles only. City employees, along with the general public, are being directed to park on the Public Square, North Gay Street or East Chestnut Street. The City is waiving parking limitations there for the duration of the garage’s closure.
