Mount Vernon Robotics Team is World Championship Bound!

The Mount Vernon Robotics Team is in its 3rd year of the Vex Robotics Competition program, with two new teams added to the High School this year. In 3 short years, the students have grown tremendously in their understanding of the engineering process, skills in strategy, and ability to articulate the reason behind their choices. Every year the gameplay changes, so students have to design, build, code, test and continually improve a robot capable of playing all of the game elements while meeting all rules or criteria. The Vex Robotics game is Tipping Point played on a 12 foot by 12 foot Field this season. The game’s object is to attain a higher score than the opposing Alliance by Scoring Rings, moving Mobile Goals to Alliance Home Zones, and Elevating on Platforms at the end of a Match. Alliances consist of two robots on the Red Alliance versus two robots on the Blue Alliance.

This season the MV Robotics Team had some incredible triumphs. Team 43050A (MS), consisting of all first-year members, came away with the Judges Award at the Loudonville Vex Robotics Competition Tipping Point Qualifier. Team 43050B (MS) was awarded the Design Award at the Highland Blended Holiday Qualifier and the US Army Blended Tipping Point Tournament. They became Tournament Champions at the Highland VRC Middle School Qualifier. All three of these awards qualified them for the State Championship. Team 43050C (MS) earned the Judges Award at the Highland Blended Holiday Qualifier and Tournament Champions allianced with the B Team at the Highland VRC Middle School Qualifier, which also qualified them for the State Championship. Team 43050E (MS) won the Excellence Award at the Mount Vernon Energy Field House VRC Blended Tipping Point Qualifier, sending them to the State Championship. Team 43050Z (HS) earned a spot at State for their Skills Ranking, and Team 43050Y improved throughout the season using several rebuilds to meet the game’s challenges.

While competing at the 2022 Middle School Ohio Vex Robotics State Championship, Team 43050E qualified into the Elimination tournament and fought hard through the Round of 16. Team 43050B and 43050C became Alliance Partners going into the Elimination Tournament. They blasted through the Round of 16, Quarterfinals, Semi-Finals, and qualified for the 2022 Middle School Vex Robotics Competition World’s Championship in Dallas, Texas, May 3rd through May 7th. Team 43050Z battled through the Qualifiers at the 2022 High School Ohio Vex Robotics Competition State Championship and ranked in the top 25 in Skills.
