Mount Vernon Cheerleading Squad 4th In State

Mount Vernon High School Cheerleading Competition Squad stepped out onto the mats as rookies and left knowing that they have started a new legacy for all to come.

The Jackets were not only rookies as this was their inaugural year in the Ohio Principals State Game Day Competition but nine of the 14 girls representing the Jackets are freshmen.

“Today felt surreal, there were so many nerves, and so much excitement as we took the mat. At the beginning of our season, as a new competition team, my expectations were low. Never as a freshman did I think we could be competing at the state competition, but leaving today and taking home fourth today, I am beyond proud to be a Jacket,” said Tressell Bockover.

The Jackets stormed out onto the mat with a large support system cheering from the stands. Decked with orange and black pom poms and cowbells, the vocal support was much appreciated.

“I am so beyond proud of how these ladies performed today! They went out and it was the best routine that they have done all year and I couldn’t ask for better. We are fourth in the state! I can’t wait to see how this program continues to grow. I want to give a big shout out to our fans for being amazing today and yelling with us. It is a great day to be a Jacket,” said head coach Miranda Zupp.
