MVCSD Head Football Coach

On Thursday, February 10th, 2022, Jay Campbell accepted the offer to be the next head football coach at Mount Vernon High School, pending board approval.
Jay Campbell is coming to Mount Vernon High School from Northridge High School where he served as the head football coach and intervention specialist since 2017.  Campbell led the Vikings to their first playoff appearance in 16 years.  As an offensive coordinator and head coach, his teams broke multiple school records. Campbell also had coaching stops at Rosecrans High School as the head football coach and assistant coaching experience at New Albany High School.
Coach Campbell is an extraordinary leader with high expectations for his players and coaches, and he brings a character-building program that will continue to develop the members of our Jacket Football programs.
Coach Campbell will be at Mount Vernon High School on Tuesday, February 15th, to meet with players, and will be in attendance at the Jackets boys basketball game on Wednesday, February 16th, to experience “the HIVE”. A meeting with parents of the Jacket Football program will be scheduled in the near future.
Mount Vernon High School had over 30 applications to be the next football coach. There were seven first-round interviews completed with two final candidates who met with the Mount Vernon Football Coach Interview Committee.  The vetting process for the final candidates was extensive and thorough.
“We put a process in place to quickly move forward while staying relentlessly focused on finding the best coach possible. Coach Campbell’s focus on creating a culture of success through leadership and developing young men was evident throughout his interviews and by his references. He brings with him an emphasis of a program vertically aligned from the youth, middle, and high school levels.  Coach Campbell is going to build and foster relationships throughout our Jackets Athletic Family and our community.  I’m certainly excited for Coach Campbell to be able to begin his work immediately growing the Mount Vernon Football program,” Justin Sanford – Athletic Director.
“I am honored to be able to be a part of the Mount Vernon community as a teacher and coach. I look forward to getting to work and helping our student-athletes grow in the classroom and on the football field. Mount Vernon has a rich tradition in athletics and I am honored to be a part of the community. I look forward to helping build on this tradition,” Jay Campbell – Head Coach.
