The Knox County Symphony will present its winter concert on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. in Rosse Hall Auditorium on the campus of Kenyon College. This concert features the winners of the Symphony’s annual Young Musicians Competition which was held last October. In the High School Division, Emily Springer took first place with the third movement of Antonio Vivaldi’s Violin Concerto in G Minor. In the College Division, Elizabeth Sharrock tied for second place with a performance of Cecile Chaminade’s Concertino for Flute and Orchestra. Karolina Edlund also earned second place with “Laudate Dominum” from Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de Confessore and “Adele’s Laughing Song” from the operetta Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss Jr. First place was taken by Linnea Mumma with “Deh, vieni, non tardar” from The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart, and “Oh, quand je dors” by Franz Liszt. In addition, the Knox County Symphony will open the concert with the Fingal’s Cave Overture by Felix Mendelssohn, and close it with L’Arlésienne Suite No. 1 by Georges Bizet.
Should conditions allow, the Psi Iota Xi Sorority will provide refreshments for the audience at the conclusion of the concert.
Emily Springer, violinist, is a junior at Mount Vernon High School. She has been a part of the school’s orchestra program for six years as a violinist and has recently become the symphonic concertmaster. Elizabeth Sharrock, flautist, is from Marysville, Ohio, where she participated in the Marysville Band program and received the Semper Fidelis award for Musical Excellence. Elizabeth is a junior music minor at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Karolina Edlund, soprano, is a senior at Kenyon College where she is majoring in neuroscience and anthropology, and a recipient of the Kenyon Music Merit Scholarship. Linnea Mumma, soprano, is a senior at Kenyon double majoring in music and English and is also a recipient of the Music Merit Scholarship.

Parking at Kenyon College, particularly in proximity to Rosse Hall, is problematic due to heavy construction going on at the campus. People with accessibility issues are urged to call Benjamin Locke at 740-427-5200 so that plans can be made to offer assistance.
