Ohio EPA Grants to Help Communities Control Mosquitoes

January 13, 2022 – Ohio EPA is accepting applications for $800,000 in grants to help local health departments and governments implement mosquito control programs to reduce risks of mosquito-borne diseases. Applications must be received by 3 p.m. on Jan. 28, 2022.

Applications may be completed and submitted online. Grants will be awarded in the spring.

The mosquito control program is a collaborative effort between Ohio EPA and the Ohio Department of Health. The funding helps communities mitigate the spread of mosquito-borne viruses such as Zika, West Nile, and La Cross Encephalitis.

Mosquito control grants specifically target:

  • mosquito surveillance;
  • larval control;
  • adult mosquito control, such as spraying where mosquito presence poses a risk to public health;
  • community outreach;
  • breeding source reduction, including trash or tire removal; and
  • additional proposed activities.

Interested applicants may contact Ohio EPA staff at mosquito.grant@epa.ohio.gov or by calling 614-705-1012. A webinar about the program is available online.

Over the last three years, Ohio EPA and the Ohio Department of Health have awarded more than $3.7 million to local health departments and communities for mosquito control programs.
