Free Deer Processing Class Offered at Delaware Wildlife Area

Delaware, Ohio – Beginner hunters interested in learning how to butcher and process their own deer are encouraged to attend a free workshop provided by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife on Wednesday, Jan. 12 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Attendees should meet at the Delaware Wildlife Area Shooting Range Education Center, 1110 State Route 229, Ashley, OH 43003.

The workshop is free of charge. Pre-registration is required, and no walk-ins will be permitted. Participants will need to bring their own deer to butcher as none are provided for this class. Registration is open online at wildohio.gov. The deadline to register is Tuesday, Jan. 11.

Trained professionals from the Division of Wildlife will cover topics including skinning, butchering, and packaging venison. All equipment will be provided for this hands-on experience and participants are asked not to bring outside materials, other than the deer. Most of the program will take place inside, with skinning and quartering taking place outside, weather permitting. Please dress for the weather.

The mission of the Division of Wildlife is to conserve and improve fish and wildlife resources and their habitats for sustainable use and appreciation by all. Visit wildohio.gov to find out more.
