On November 23, 2021, Mount Vernon Mayor Matt Starr swore in three new members of the Mount Vernon Police Department. DuCoty T. Cochran, Ronald P. Cerny II and John M. Cox are now serving the City as Patrolmen for the department.

Police Chief Robert Morgan noted that all three new officers took advantage of the City’s lateral transfer policy, enabling them to assume their new positions after working elsewhere in the Police Department.

DuCoty T. Cochran comes to the MVPD from the Police Department in West Lafayette, Ohio, in Coshocton County.

Ronald P. Cerny II previously worked for the Ashville (Ohio) Police Department, in Pickaway County. Ron is a 2011 graduate of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) as well as Lorain County Community College.

John M. Cox comes to the Mount Vernon Police Department after serving with the Police Department for the Village of Danville. He is also a graduate of OPOTA, and brings 16 years of experience to the MVPD.

Morgan added that with Cochran, Cerny and Cox coming on board as Patrolmen the Police Department is closer to becoming fully staffed.

“I’d like to wish everyone in Mount Vernon a happy Thanksgiving holiday,” Morgan said. “Please take care not to drink and drive, or text and drive, and keep this holiday a safe one as well.”
