Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Associate Director for Health Promotion. The Associate Director will support Kenyon College students’ success by coordinating prevention focused education and developing health and wellness programs that build life skills. Health promotion can expand protective factors for students while strengthening campus infrastructure. Institutional safety is increased by the implementation of prevention programming and campus population-level interventions.

The work of the health promotion will deepen/broaden the Cox Center’s efforts to empower students to best manage their own health in preparation for life after Kenyon, and will advance the College’s strategic focus on prioritizing wellness across the Kenyon community. Health promotion initiatives will seek to partner with and be supported by various campus departments and offices. This position reports to the Director of the Cox Health & Counseling Center and is a 12-month position.

Essential Functions

  • Regularly assess the campus environment and community wellness related needs; develop programs to address emerging needs.
  • Facilitate student education about clinical services offered by the Cox Health & Counseling Center.
  • Assist Cox Center clinical teams with the development of student educational programming and workshops.
  • Support Cox Center communication initiatives including website, building digital signage, social media, and student feedback efforts.
  • Coordinate prevention based education on topics including but not limited to: alcohol & other drugs, sex (consent, healthy relationships & STI Prevention), and mental health resilience.
  • Promote evidence-based programs including but not limited to: Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR; Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention), Mental Health First Aid (mental health), the Steve Fund workshops (mental health & well-being for students of color), MGH-Center for Cross Cultural Student Emotional Wellness (international student support) and JED Campus Program (sustainable campus culture of wellness).
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders on and off campus to develop a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary approach to student wellness including but not limited to: Knox Public Health, New Directions of Knox County, Licking & Knox Mental Health & Recovery Board.
  • Develop a peer educator program which includes: recruiting, selecting, training, supervising, and evaluating student Peer Educators in their work facilitating programs and activities designed to promote student wellness.
    • Potential topics could include: Mental Health, Bystander Intervention, Healthy Intimate Partner Relationships, Hazing, Alcohol and Other Drugs.
  • Serve as a consultant to student organizations seeking to develop health promotion programming.
  • Participate in campus emergency preparedness and response activities.
  • Participate in professional writing, publications, and/or presentations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters or advanced degree in related areas including public health, health promotion or health education.
  • A minimum of two years related health promotion work experience, preferably in a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-informed health promotion programs/initiatives.
  • Proficient in a variety of computer software applications (i.e. Google Office Suite).
  • Written/oral/interpersonal communication skills.
  • Willingness and flexibility to gain knowledge of, develop expertise in, and implement health promotion programs on a variety of key health issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
